Which of Pia's Renditions of Our National Anthem Do You Like better?

The traditional version......

(Pia goes into higher notes around 1:13)

Which rendition do you like better?

I have to say, I DO love them both- but if I HAVE to choose, I would go for the traditional version. I like my National Anthem with no embellishments, and Pia does it beautifully.

I have to say i LOVE Pia's own rendition (the second video) where she changes it up a bit....still 100% our National Anthem, with a Pia twist!

I like the second version better because I've never heard anybody else go up and hit high notes like that during the anthem.  I don't think anyone else would even attempt it.  Pia really is fearless when it comes to hittng the big notes (or at least she makes it look that way).

I like both and I'm glad she went up higher at: "that our flag was still there".  That emphasized the whole point of the anthem.  That despite all the turmoil of war surrounding the fort, the stars and stripes remained waving at dawn.  Pretty powerful image sung by a powerful voice with the vocal range to pull off those majestic notes.

Well said!! I never thought about the emphasizing "the whole point of the anthem" aspect of the notes she chose for those words....I was mesmerized by the notes, that she hits!

I'm with mshalo18. I prefer the traditional version. I hear the Anthem like water flowing in my ears. When there's a big shift like that it causes a major ripple. The first time I heard Pia sing the N.A. was at the PBS Memorial Day concert. This performance being when she was on the Capitol. I was totally impressed at how she paid respect to the song and not try to make it about herself. Regardless Pia can sing it however she's feeling it and I will still be knocked over.

Another thing I love about the Kings version is you can hear a buzz in the crowd when they are anticipating Pia's next note. Then of course the cheers when she delivers.

I don’t really have a preference, but in this case I will say the second one because when she sings for the Kings they want it sung quickly.  I think it sounds better when it’s sung a little slower.
